Internationalization
SALT Group Defines "Internationalization" as follows:
Internationalization is a specialized process in which the producers, mainly software manufacturers, open continuous hot channels with their Language Vendors for consulting about all issues that developers believe will bear locale impact when distributed internationally.
Typically, the producer is asking for an advice about the suitability of the software content such as conventions, practices, symbols, designs, images, examples, language and locale styles, etc., which might be accepted in the source country but rejected in the targeted environment, and can be avoided early enough with a minimum cost and a maximum market trust.
How we do it:
Being a preferred Arabic vendor provider to many international MLVs, we offered providing help to their clients within the scope of internationalizing their products according to our definition as mentioned here above. That kind of assistance goes like this:
- When a client is working in the phase of developing his product (Document - Software - Web Site), and according to a pre-defined contract, the client starts to request opening a hot line with SALT internationalization team through which both parties exchange information whenever an Arabic or a bidi issue is encountered.
- Usually, Internationalization vendor, like SLAT, is prepared with a huge library containing the most commonly used and applied local conventions and styles, in different areas of specialization, so that we can be ready for any urgent question about the usability of any piece of code or text that might be submitted by our client's developers.
- For non-urgent requests, we receive questions, queries and blocks of code or text upon which detailed study is carried out searching for specific terminology, expressions, examples or any other linguistic, formatted text or non-applied code in the Arabic speaking countries.
The final goal of this process is to provide a kind of service to our clients that helps them make sure of a subsequent easy and smooth localization process. This is achieved via early modifying text and code while there is enough room and time to perform critical modifications.
Examples of critical Advices we provide to our clients:
- Applying BiDi standard coding that is not available through UTF-8 or Unicode file formatting.
- Considering all Regional Settings of the Arabic speaking countries.
- Considering specific differences between local dialects, which are determined by the product destination.
- Some Merchantability advices that we are aware with which helps the product to be highly welcome and acknowledged by Arabic users.
